Mmmmm Pumpkin- that ever-popular Fall accessory from candles to coffee and everything in between- including your skin! Pumpkin facials are a must-have staple at Spas all over the country. But you don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars to enjoy one – you can make it yourself!
Why Pumpkin… on your skin?
Besides the delicious, relaxing aroma, Pumpkin is loaded with vitamin A, alpha and beta-carotenes, vitamins C, E, and K, plus various minerals- including magnesium, potassium, iron, and zinc. When it comes to your skin, these antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals work together to reverse signs of aging, soften and smooth skin, as well as help trigger collagen production.
This mask is great for exfoliating, controlling excess oil and combating acne, reducing inflammation and pore size, as well as fading sun and age spots.
You can make this amazing facial with ingredients you (most likely) have at home as a “wet” mask- meaning you’ll use it immediately; or, grab the powdered form of these ingredients and mix together a “dry” mask that you can save and store!
Ingredients: Organic Pumpkin Purée (or Powder), Honey (or Powder), Coconut Milk (or Powder), Ground Oats, and White Kaolin Clay (optional for wet version, needed for dry).
For the “wet” version:
- 2 tsp of pureed pumpkin,
- 1/2 tsp of honey
- 1/2 tsp of coconut milk.
- 1 tbsp ground oats
- 1 tbsp Kaolin Clay (optional)
Mix together and apply to a clean, freshly washed face.
For the “dry” version:
This is going to depend on how many masks you want to make and store. Start small to make sure that your skin loves it!
For every tbsp of Kaolin Clay, add an equal amount of powdered coconut milk. Then, for every tbsp of Kaolin Clay, add ½ tbsp of ground oats, and ½ tbsp honey powder.
Since this is a dry mask, it must be activated with water (or activator of choice, see below) when you are ready to use it. Start with about a spoonful’s worth of dry mask and combine with activator until desired consistency is achieved.
For either version: leave mask on for 15-20 mins and rinse off with warm water and washcloth. Pat dry to reveal beautifully exfoliated and toned skin!
About the other ingredients:
Honey is a great bacteria fighter due to its antimicrobial properties. It also works to reduce inflammation and dryness, is a natural cleanser and moisturizer, while its antioxidants help to promote healing and a healthy glow.
White Kaolin Clay is the mildest of all clays, awesome for sensitive skin, and works to draw out impurities without causing the skin to dry out.
